======Press Release=======
Maria Cárdenas is off to London at the weekend to make a pitch in Liberty, the upmarket independent department store in London. The Latina designer and tailor, based in County Down, has an invite as part of Liberty's "Best of British" product call.
Liberty is hosting an open day where up and coming designers have the opportunity to present their ranges to its buying team and battle for a chance to be stocked in the department store.
A panel of judges from Liberty, including buying director Ed Burstell and Liberty's creative consultant Yasmin Sewell, as well as fashion journalist Sarah Mower and design journalist David Nichols, will pick the best collections to sell at the Liberty store at Great Marlborough Street in London. Later in the year, as an Irish designer this time, Maria has been approved to show at the Pink Afternoon Fashion Show at Lisloughrey Lodge, Cong, County Mayo on Thursday 25th June. This is a very exclusive event, presented by Eddie Shanahan, with promotion from Galway Now magazine, and national media coverage.
Maria recently took part as an International Invited Artist at a US show-CraftBoston, at the World Trade Center, and came back with orders for her distinctive ladies and menswear in Irish Linen and Silk. Her husband and partner was also invited to take part in the lecture program, and gave an illustrated talk on Maria's designs, and the history of Irish Linen.
We made some very good contacts, and are hoping to be able to pursue more opportunities in the near future.
