Maria Cárdenas and The Pink Afternoon, Lisloughrey Lodge, Cong, June 25th 2009.
Maria Cárdenas is one of six Irish designers selected for this very worthwhile event in aid of the Breast Cancer charity, NBCRI. The fundraising lunch features an ‘Irish Designer Showcase’ by renowned fashion show producer Eddie Shanahan and some of Irelands top models, in the stunning surroundings of Lisloughrey Lodge.
Maria was recently invited to join the Irish Linen Guild, and be a part of the great tradition of a natural beautiful fabric, and of the expertise developed in Ireland over the centuries. It is a material that is natural, sourced locally, with a soft ecological footprint.
“Based in the North, among the Mournes, near Newry, I have been able to keep my feet on the ground over the last few years. I wanted to source fabric and produce in Ireland, and to design and make elegant wearable clothes that last, rather than chase all the trends. It is really good to be invited to be part of the show, and to support the charity. The added bonus is working with Eddie Shanahan, and meeting up again with the other designers.”
The Latina designer and tailor had an invite recently to go to London as part of the famous Liberty store's "Best of British" product call, and is taking part in the Fashion For Freedom charity fashion show, in the Radisson SAS, Galway, on the 22nd of July.
At the end of March, Maria took part as an International Invited Artist at a US show-CraftBoston, at the World Trade Center in the city, and came back with orders for her distinctive womens, and menswear, in Irish Linen and Silk. Her husband and partner was invited to take part in the lecture program on Maria's designs, and the history of Irish Linen.
Maria Cárdenas designs “luxury classics” in natural materials- Irish Linen, Tasar Silk, and Cotton. Maria also shows her shirtmaking expertise, to create the ultimate in exclusive tailored shirts- handcrafted in Ireland in the finest Irish Linen.
A third generation tailor and designer, Maria’s designs are based on simple, well defined shapes, developed over many years. Maria has been approached for an outfit for the Ulster Museum Fashion Collection. Maria Cárdenas features in the current Masters of Linen brochure, produced by the Paris and New York based organization to show off the best in European Linen. And she has just been invited to join the very exclusive Irish Linen Guild.
